bb is connected using BT but DM says not

whenever i'm near my PC my bb indicates i'ts connected via bluetooth (the little flashing blue light) but looking at DM 4.3 is says "device connected(pin): none"

i can physically plug in the bb and 'force' it to sync (synchronize>synchronize now), but why aren't they talking normally (now and again it will do this).

i have "auto sync" checked.
