How do I know if I have a good amount of free space? The file total on my 8830 says 47841280 Bytes and right now I have 13924201 Bytes free, is this a good amount of free space? What is the ideal amount of free space one should have at all times (if there even is one)??

Please advise

You should be fine.
The ideal amount is "as much as possible."

I'd be concerned if/when it dips under 10MB, although I've been running mine with about 6MB free for several months with no ill effects.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

47841280 = 47MB

13924201 = 13MB

Once I get under 10 MB, I consider it too low. Others may have a different view on this.

I shoot for 15+ free, and get grouchy at 10.

I've been idling at 11mb, and will dip as low as 4-5mb depending on if i let email / apps get out of control

So how much = 1MB? I've seen people speak about having only xx amount free etc but I don't even know when I have what Lol :?

Ooh wait, its basically the 1st two numbers shown correct? "478941280 = 47MB"??

I have a lean device in terms of apps with 40MB free, thanks to John Clark's surgical procedure on how to max the BB's memory.

No, you have to place commas where they belong...

"478941280" would be "478,941,280" = 478 mb, which is not possible on the BB... place the comma separators from back grouping three digits at a time...

so, "1234567" would be "1,234,567" = 1.2 mb, and NOT 12 mb.

47841280 = 47mb = 47,841,280

13924201 = 13mb = 13,924,201

47841280 = 47mb = 47,841,280

13924201 = 13mb = 13,924,201

Well, to nitpick a little... 1MB is not 1,000,000 bytes. It's actually 1,048,576 bytes.

So...
47841280 is about 45.6MB
and
13924201 is about 13.3MB.

You should also use a capital 'B' when referring to Bytes. A lower case 'b' is often used for Bits.

;-)

I guessed that ^^ post was inevitable!

Good clarification.

Same. I have gone as low as 4MB. I usually run around 6-7MB consistantly with no issues.

I've hit 9 MB once, I re-booted in a heart beat :)

I went threw the Memory optimization thread and after a reboot I have almost 23 MB however I drop to like 14 MB very quickly. I hate to go below 10, just me being paranoid.

I have Memory Up and whenever I start to feel a lag I do a "ram boost" and all is well again.
