I just got an BB Curve 8310 and I put the software CD ROM into my laptop which has Windows Vista. I closed all other programs on my computer then I pressed install, and it started to install, but then it said this...

"The wizard was interupted before Blackberry Desktop Software could be completely installed.

Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run the setup again.

Click finish to exit the wizard."

How do I get it to install without having this happen? I ultimately just want to put mp3s, videos, and pictures onto my BB and upload photos from my BB to my PC. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Download and install the Desktop Manager from here:
BlackBerry Desktop Manager Downloads - BlackBerryFAQ (http://blackberryfaq.net/index.php/BlackBerry_Desktop_Manager_Downloads)

But you really don't need the Media Manager part of it for what you are going to be doing...
do this instead, much easier, simpler and smoother:
How do I add media files to my microSD card? - BlackBerryFAQ (http://blackberryfaq.net/index.php/How_do_I_add_media_files_to_my_microSD_card%3F)

I tried downloading both of the versions (one without the media manager and one with it). Both of them did the same exact thing as the CD ROM did. Thank you for the reply. Do you have any more suggestions?

are you running as the Admin? or do you have limited authorization to install. also did you reboot the computer to see if it cleared out the installation attempt?

I don't think I'm running it as an admin. I tried rebooting it and the same problem occurred. Thanks for the quick response. Any more ideas?

try to run as admin. should be able to right click on the installer file that you downloaded and set "run as"

Make sure UAC (user acct control) is ON.
Before you do anything uninstall any other versions of the desktop manager.
Download BlackBerry USB and Modem Drivers. :
BlackBerry - PDA Software Downloads - Support & Services at BlackBerry.com (http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/#tab_tab_desktop)
Software For BlackBerry Desktop Software v4.2 Service Pack 2 >>> BlackBerry USB and Modem Drivers English
Download the desktop manager.

try this from Blackberry Desktop Software - RIM BlackBerry - Wireless Forums from AT&T (http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=rim&thread.id=26697)

User Account Control (UAC) can help you prevent unauthorized changes to your computer. It works by prompting you for permission when a task requires administrative rights, such as installing software or changing settings that affect other users.

We don't recommend turning User Account Control off. If you do turn it off, you should turn it back on as soon as possible.

1. Open User Accounts by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking User Accounts and Family Safety (or clicking User Accounts, if you are connected to a network domain), and then clicking User Accounts.

2. Click Turn User Account Control on or off. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

3. Select the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer check box to turn on UAC, or clear the check box to turn off UAC, and then click OK.

craw, I would recommend that you confirm that all your previous attempts and installtions of DM are deleted completely from the PC. Reboot the PC. Download the 4.2 SP2 version without media manager, and try again.

Here's an article on the RIM support site for dealing with that error.

BlackBerry Search Results (http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB04384&sliceId=SAL_Public&dialogID=56531637&stateId=0%200%2056529611)

I'd recommend going through all those steps as outlined there.
