Besides asking nicely, how would someone go about becoming a beta tester for RIM devices? Do they do everything internal or do they go through a 3rd party like Centercode. Anyone that can shed some light on this would be much appreciated.. Thanks!

It is my understanding that there are not outside testers--outside of RIM and their carriers and those third party testing contractors.

The problem with testing through third parties is they'll have a repeat of what has happened with the few 9000's on ebay, i.e. the possibility of stolen or sold-on devices for profit...
But i liked LunkHead's comment - 'Beg'

lol, and that third party vendor won't have a contract much longer.

I have a good hunch those devices on eBay were not from a third party.

RIM tend not to allow much outside beta testing of devices, software is a different matter however. RIM have a beta test applicant program where you have first have to be nominated by RIM, and if your nomination is successful you then have to apply for it - a long winded questionaire. From there, if you're lucky, you get on.

As for devices though, you must be joking!

So Begging it is.. I'm flying to Waterloo and sit on the front lawn begging to become one..

I guess as large as RIM is, they would want to put it in the hands of real users to get feedback. Centercode does alot with T-Mobile beta tests. I would assume it would be the same with RIM. Oh well... Thanks for the feedback though!

You just need to have contacts within the industry, whether it be from RIM or a carrier.
