I heard that if you contact carries and ask for unlock code they give it to you is this correct?

Simple answer - sometimes. So will, some won't. Only the original carrier for the BB can give you the unlock code.

In the past I had a user who had an ATT BlackBerry. We got it unlocked for free by calling tech support and telling them he was going out of the Country...they emailed him the unlock code for free.

if the BB was unlocked would the PIN be changed a well?

JSanders

No. Unlocking the BB for use on a carrier other than for which it is branded does not change the PIN. The PIN remains the same and stays with the device.

i bought me a 8830 but the PIN is still used by another person, how do i work around that? if i would apply for BIS, would my local carrier take care of that for me or is that my sole problem for buying a BB from a 3rd party vendor?

You need to call the carrier that the phone is branded to and have them release the PIN.

I tried emailing Cable and wireless as well as calling them..

Email: I'm moving out of the country and requesting unlock code

Response: You have to talk to your carrier we can't do anything..

My Response: You are the carrier for this phone.

( no response )

When I tried to call it was busy all the time.. Can anyone help? I did order a code from horizon but I would like to get one from cable and wireless asap just so I dont have to wait..

And what does the pin do ? Is this going to be a problem not knowing it?

it seems that the carrier dont want to release the PIN. so does that mean i cant get BIS on my bb?

@<hidden> Pizza-- is your device branded to Cable & Wireless? Then yes, only they can provide the "free" carrier unlock.

@<hidden> jepock22-- If the carrier won't release the PIN for your use, then you will not have use of the BB for BIS at all, on any carrier. Your issue is not related to unlocking the device, I am not sure why you are posting your questions here, but so be it for now.

Contact the company you're buying the code from first and ask what their refund policy is if the code doesn't work.

I got a Blackberry from my pastor, he gave me his 8800 when he got an iPhone. I called Cingular (now ATT) and explained to them that I am a missionary living overseas, and I would like to get the 8800 unlocked. They were very helpful. They asked for my IMEI number and gave me the unlock code, no charge. She even talked me through the unlocking process.
