Data Connection Refused? - BlackBerryFAQ (http://blackberryfaq.net/index.php/Data_Connection_Refused%3F)

What do I need a Data Plan for? - BlackBerryFAQ (http://blackberryfaq.net/index.php/What_do_I_need_a_Data_Plan_for%3F)

Most carrier PAYgo plans won't work on a BB for data. I don't know yours.

John Clark

You need a special Blackberry Data Plan in order to get data/internet/email on a blackberry. Pay as you go won't cut it.

farknesdog
06-06-2008, 10:48 AM
alright then but it still wont let me call or even text do i need that price plan thing

John Clark
06-06-2008, 10:50 AM
Does it accept your sim card?

It could have an IT policy on it. Check in Options >Security Options >General Settings. Scroll to the bottom and see if you see any reference to an IT Policy.

farknesdog
06-06-2008, 10:52 AM
well on the screen it has a picture of the sim on it and has all the voicemail top up numbers ect none of my contacts tho in the address book and in options it has my network down so i think it reads it

farknesdog
06-06-2008, 10:56 AM
i have used other sims as well and the same thing happens all on different networks to

John Clark
06-06-2008, 10:57 AM
Then it's likely IT policy. Check for the policy as I described above.

farknesdog
06-06-2008, 10:58 AM

farknesdog
06-06-2008, 10:59 AM

farknesdog
06-06-2008, 11:00 AM
yeah there is but is says its disabled

John Clark
06-06-2008, 11:01 AM
"Disabled" is the policy name? You can't "disable" a policy. It's got to be the policy name.

Remove the policy:

John Clark
06-06-2008, 11:12 AM
Get rid of your IT policy first. Then you'll have all your phone options back.

06-06-2008, 11:14 AM

You need to peruse the FAQs here a bit more... very helpful and will answer common questions with step-by-step instructions.

How to wipe the OS from a BlackBerry device? - BlackBerryFAQ (http://blackberryfaq.net/index.php/How_to_wipe_the_OS_from_a_BlackBerry_device%3F)

IF you have not removed the current IT Policy, wiping could be disabled by the IT Policy, I suppose.

farknesdog
06-06-2008, 11:30 AM
and the IT policy has gone?

JSanders
06-06-2008, 11:32 AM
No, the IT Policy doesn't "gone", you replace it with a blank policy.

What does yours state?

farknesdog
06-06-2008, 11:34 AM

farknesdog
06-06-2008, 11:37 AM

John Clark
06-06-2008, 11:48 AM
You need to help me out here a bit...I ask a question and you don't answer. I'm trying to help you but you have to help me help you.

What did you "update?"

John Clark
06-06-2008, 11:49 AM
It says "data connection refused" because you HAVE NO BLACKBERRY DATA PLAN on your prepaid account. Nothing you can do will change that other than getting a blackberry data plan.

Ok. On o2 uk you can get a simplicity sim which is a pay monthly sim card with no long contract and add the blackberry bolt on to it for £10 min 6 months. The sims start at £15 for 200 mins & 200 texts.

What you may want to consider however is that at the moment o2 has a promo on the pearl 8100 and you can get it free on a £25 contract (18 months) with the blackberry tariff thrown in. Grab the o2 blue magazine as the offer is in there near the back page (page 68) & should be on their website too.

If you do not want a contract try the simplicity sim & bolt on option. You should be able to keep your number.

Hope that helps.

So, we've established that you have no data plan. Foxglove has given you a solution to that. What about the issue I'm quoting in this post?

Well, that's what you need to get data/internet/email on your blackberry. Pay to play.

farknesdog
06-06-2008, 11:56 AM

John Clark

Nobody can get the contract for you. The plan has to be provisioned on the sim that you are using.

I'm thinking you got the wrong phone.

John Clark

lol haha im new to blackberrys and phones so you know

John Clark
06-06-2008, 12:12 PM
You need to move your phone numbers from the sim to the Blackberry's Address book. If you want to dial numbers from the sim, you need to press the phone button or phone icon, then hit the trackwheel and select "sim phone book." I recommend just putting all your numbers in the BB's built in address book and not worry about the sim phone book.

To send someone a text message, click on the "Messages" icon. Then hit the trackwheel and select "compose sms text." If you don't have anything stored, use the [use once] and enter the number manually.

Unfortunately on pay and go on a blackberry you get calls and texts only.

The blackberry tariff has to be on a pay monthly sim.

John Clark
06-06-2008, 12:18 PM
Sorry, no green phone button on your device. I changed my post.

Just use the black phone button or phone icon.

farknesdog
06-06-2008, 12:18 PM
lol and my bluetooth is disabled i have no options on it

John Clark
06-06-2008, 12:20 PM
I don't think we're quite up to using bluetooth yet. Lets just figure out how to make a phone call and send a text message.

farknesdog
06-06-2008, 12:22 PM
lol come on lol i need sum stuff of my bros phone

John Clark
06-06-2008, 12:26 PM
I think you need to start here:

BlackBerry Search Results (http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=SWDXHHEN-063004&sliceId=&dialogID=141072707&stateId=0%200%2066691839)

When you've read that, come back and we'll answer what questions you have left. Remember, you have no data plan so you can't do email or internet but look for bluetooth setup/text messaging/phone call use, etc.

The slang for that is RTFM. That really will help you out.
