Unlocking ATT without ATT Sim

I'm getting a new Curve 8310 locked to ATT & i have the unlock code of it.

I just wonder if you can unlock ATT locked device with a sim from another carrier (Orange)?, will the prompt menu to enter the code appear after typing MEPD - MEP(ALt)2??
