Outage - AT&T; June 18

Is there a planned or unplanned outage for AT&T? My phone has been in GSM and went small edge but has not gone large EDGE for a while. Please advise.

We saw the same problem just outside of Baton Rouge, La. We are told AT&T in Louisiana is diligently rolling out 3g in previously unsupported areas and were doing network upgrades during that time.

My Director of Emergency Preparedness commonly communicates with an AT&T Tower Engineer and he said a call to him this morning relayed that information. Of course that was in a message sent to me. I will find out more when I get to work.

I do not understand how the outage only affects my Blackberry and not my other wireless device. It still has data access, but my Blackberry will not go full EDGE....as I am writing this e-mail it went full EDGE but no data.

There is definitely a problem with AT&T in Atlanta. All of our users are experiencing problems also.

I'm on the phone with AT&T Wireless, the representative did inform me that they have an outage for the southeast region. There is no ETA to resolution for this outage. They do have a master ticket open. That is all the information I could get.

I am in the Atlanta area and also have outage. By that I mean that 'edge' is showing vs. 'EDGE'. This must also affect getting e-mails because I have not received any this morning through the Blackberry, just on my desktop software.

Well, I am in Atlanta and I just looked down at my phone and noticed that all my networks were turned off.

So I turned them on and now it appears to be working, but it was definitely out all morning till now.

My question is, what is edge vs. EDGE

I mean, what is the technical difference?

Interesting note: When my BB was reading 'edge', I had 4 (of 5 bars). I live in an area of Atlanta sub. that has weak coverage because of a golf course. Now that 'EDGE' is back, I am back down to 2 bars. Not an expert on cellular coverage, but I would think that 'EDGE' would reach further then 'edge'.

Outage is speratic, some users receiving fine and others are not. Same issue some have lowercase edge.

I was down to 'edge' for about an hour this AM, back up to EDGE now.

I was also in a building that entire period... I turned of the mobile network a couple times and it would regain EDGE and fall back to edge quickly.

that would imply a data plan problem with AT&T. you are getting ZERO data. Pull the battery for 30 seconds with the device on and then put it back in to boot up.

I did 3 battery pulls--- now I get edge but only in small letters. I also just off the phone with AT&T--- they tell me it's a nation-wide data problem, although my daughter has full EDGE in NYC.

It's slowly going nationwide, I'm hoping I can finish this EA for the CEO on his new BB before it hits us in Troy Michigan. All other AT&T BB's here are fine.

It is sporadic. I was down, now up. RIM has a data workaround now, but it is not serving everyone.

Ok I'm in Michigan and I have a different carrier but since yesterday evening I haven't been receiving emails from all my accounts.

Is this related? It shows EDGE and I've power cycled, re-registered, did the service books and still no received emails. I can send but not receive, from one to two of my accounts.

Almost all day yesterday I had GSM only, EDGE very very sporadicly, today as of an hour or so ago seems to be back on... I am using os 4.5... almost rolled it back to see if that was the issue...

So what is difference between edge and EDGE?

With edge, you can only do phone, SMS and generic data via your carrier's APN. With EDGE, you can do phone, SMS and then the BlackBerry Services (emails and PINs).
