Battery Issues

Hey folks,
I recently switched back to my 8700g because I missed my baby.

I am having terrible battery issues though. I would plug it in to charge and it would be charging, but when I wake up it doesn't say its charging but I have 100% when I check the status. I can't even go a half a day with this. Any suggestions? Is the plug all messed up or my BB whacked out? I did drop it quite alot :cry:

Have you updated your signal?? There is usually an automated number that you can call through your carrier which updates your signal with the nearby cell towers.

Your carrier has your number. You are basically updating your device to the nearby cell tower signals.

GSM you shouldnt need to do anything like that. However it is very likely that you need a new battery. The 8700 devices are fairly old, and with a battery just sitting its possible it will not hold a charge as it should. Try a new battery and see what happens. (or borrow one from an 83xx series device)

It does sound like end-of-life on the battery.

Here's a choice for you.

If you plan to keep this handset long-term you can, of course, just buy a new battery.

Or check out the Tekkeon MP1800 and MP1550 (I hope I got those numbers right). The 1800 has a LiIon battery inside that you charge in daisy-chain with your phone (mini-5 USB in, USB-A out) and I think it's something like $45, about the cost of a new BB battery. The 1550 uses 2 or 4 AA cells - standard alkaline or E2 Lithium or NiMH. I put 4 NiMH rechargeables in mine - you also daisy-chain charge - which is good for about an extra day. If I'm stuck somewhere (like an airport or a Las Vegas casino bar) and the NiMH charge runs out, I can always pop into a newsstand & pick up a package of standard AA cells. I sometimes stick the pack & a retractable cable into my back pocket if I have to head out without a full charge.

It's an alternative.
