My company uses an Enterprise Server for our Blackberry usage. Recently, they pushed a patch that removed my ability to SMS from my Blackberry. The option no longer exist in any menu.

Is it possible to re - enable this function myself. I have a Blackberry 7130C.

Thanks.

No, sorry. Once it is blocked by the IT Policy, there isn't anything you can do to get around it.

Do you know why they blocked it?

I can tell you I'd be happy to block it on our BES. One look thru the SMS logs (yes, they can read what you send and receive) and I see that 99% of it is non work related garbage. Even porn type messages.

well not without removing yourself from the BES and possibly risking your job

Your best bet is to call and ask them.

because they may not want to pay for it?

Because even though they can be logged, it's not as good an audit trail as e-mail.

Because they want all communication to come from 'official' company channels like e-mail.

There are a lot of good reasons relating to audit, reporting requirements, legal whay they'd want that.

Trying to get around the block could very well cost you your job.
