i'm pretty much always in heavily metropolitan areas (seattle, bay area, etc). but my sprint 8830 just seems to want to drop coverage randomly for no reason. it's the weirdest thing. i'll have a full 1XEV 5 bars one second, then zero bars or even an X the next second.

does anyone else have this issue? i saw that the latest sprint handheld software fixed this, but i've seen no improvement...

What version of the OS do you have installed? This one http://www.blackberryforums.com/general-8800-series-discussion/131271-latest-8830-os-4-2-2-365-4-2-2-196-multilanguage-sprint.html helped me significantly, but YMMV.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

DJM2 is right on the money. The upgrade should solve the problem.

Humor us. Go to Options->About and report what the 3rd line there says.

Yeah, the latest 8830 OS fixes the stupid 1x issues I had then... Now it's much more reliable.

I don't know ever since I upgraded to 4.2.2.196 for VZW my signal has been really jumpy, sometimes I only have 2 bars in my own house and sometimes I will have all the bars (in my own house). Unless my BlackBerry my be going bad on me but I haven't had for a a year already. So I doubt that.

Soon I am going to downgrade back 4.2.2.176 or wait for 4.5 if this keeps up. Hopefully 4.5 will be out soon.
