As someone who lives in a fringe reception area, and whose iPhone shifts from no signal to a fraction of a bar, is there a chance that a Blackberry's design and hardware would guarantee better reception with the same carrier?
Anyone have a similar experience?

Wirelessly posted (off to see the wizard)
No guarantee
However a device can make a big difference! BBs rate pretty high for reception

Having gone from the iphone to the 8310 I can say yes. I get a better signal with my BB then I did with my iphone. It was, in fact, the reason I switched.

Mine works great !
I live in an area where my BB gets 0-2 bars on AT&T. FOr me, "More bars in more places" means I'm often driven to drink.
But the technological basis is sound - a BlackBerry natively opens both voice & data channels and the carriers' gear is set to provide a little more bandwidth to a BB (it's a money-tree thing) and to work a little harder for the connection.
I know a BlackBerry has its own stack within the protocol, which probably helps that happen; I doubt very much that other phones can mimic that.
So bottom line, yes, a BB gives you a slight edge.
For a bigger edge, Google Wi-Ex

Yeah, I'm bad that way, always want to try the newest thing. I can't remember the last time I had a phone for a year or more.
