I was able to stream media to my 8830 using tversity and the newest (beta) OS for the 8830. I would imagine that this would work with similar models as the newer OS's are supposed to be more media friendly.
I haven't tested everything yet but I thought I'd put this out there as others may find this helpful and be able to further the cause. Please let me know if you have any questions.
