I'm using 4.0198 - is there a newer T-Mobile upgrade for the 7100T? Where would I get it?

4.0.2.32 is the latest. a new version will be released in the next few weeks, so you may want to wait on that version.

What is that new version rumored to address?

The new version is supposed to replace the messages app with Outlook Express and replace the Blackberry Browser with IE.

Is that a good thing? Is Outlook express better than the messages application on the bb now?

I am not a big fan of microsoft crap into BB world. Thats why I ran away from HP 6315. IE is cool but what about all those security issues and buffere overrun where your blackberry will fall sleep in the middle of talk and only thing you can do is pull the breathing tube and reboot.
I am wishful thinker but when it comes to Microsoft it is hard to beleive. So far history is not very shinny on Microsoft based phones.

He's a she ;-)

It is just more bug fixes. May be 4.0.2.39. (the bundle name may be 4.0.2.52).

Nothing much...

Thanks.. I stopped correcting people because I don't really care.

Although sometimes it's fun to point out to people that they're inherently sexist... automatically assuming that a somewhat knowledgable individual in the tech industry is male.
We'll always be a minority... but I'm cool with that. :)

The bundled name will be 4.0.2.59, which leads me to believe the apps name will be 4.0.2.42 or so.

I believe this will address the Bluetooth issue, but as I was told by those working with it, if it doesn't, then there will be nothing more through the software API that they can do to address that issue. Those using the 4.0.2.37 software for the 7520 have stated that their BT volume issues have been resolved.

Hmmm. Any rumors about a voice quality fix? I am running 4.0.2.32 and I get lots of complaints about voice quality. My sense of the problem is that it is gain control related (AGC). I also think that it is a software issue, since the problem seems to go away when I move back to 3.8.

Anybody have any information on that specific issue?

4.0.2.36 is bundle 4.0.2.53.

Why do the bundles have a different number than the handheld code?

Does it really matter?

Does it really matter?
It's not exactly a conventional naming format...

Is there a place where I can download the latest update for the 7100t besides t-Mobile? I'm using an Unlocked 7100t on a Cingular account, so I can't give them a tmobile number to get the download!

Go to the RIM Software forum. click on the 4.0 Upgrade sticky thread. click on the TMO link from there. they are direct links to the downloads, so no cell authentication step.

With TMO upgrading BIS on October 1 to move configuration management from the web client to the handset, wouldn't they want to release a firmware upgrade before then so users are ready for the BIS cutover? Otherwise, it will be possible for BIS users to find themselves without any access to BIS configuration options, i.e., the web client has been shut down but the new BIS application is not yet on the handset.

Just a thought anyhow...

the 4.0 handheld software has been available since Q1 of this year. the BIS cutover won't affect anyone thats on 4.0 - just those on 3.x, where they have to manually accept the service book. 4.0.2 has been available for a few months now. the new firmware is simply an update of 4.0.2.

yeah, at a rate of 1-3KB/s, 17MB shouldn't take that long...

C'mon Jibi - don't be a cheap - the latest version of the 7100t code tips the scales at 31MB!!!

with the upcoming "mysterious" upgrade/elimination of WebClient I've got a real problem. I HAD updated my 7100t a few months ago to a 4 version firmware. As some others experienced I had the "call drop" problem on long conversations. Voice quality s*cked as well. So I downgraded to 3.8 and have been happy ever since.

Aside from T-Mo's advice to upgrade to the latest firmware (and face it, they disavow any responsibility if the new firmware causes problems for you) is there any reliable info as to whether you really NEED to upgrade in order to work properly with the new system? Does the latest 4 firmware eliminate (for those who had the problem originally) the "call dropping"?

Any pointers on the above would be appreciated. This is great: I just managed to figure out how to get all my e-mail working with WebClient and T-Mo/RIM pull the rug out from under me. :)

Thanks.
