Horizon Wireless is one unlock service. HorizonWirelessOnline.com - Horizon Wireless, The World’s Cellular Repair Center ß (http://horizonwirelessonline.com/cat/)

They advertise on here and I know several members recommend them. Not sure of the cost. Also don't know if they can unlock the Bold yet.

Does Horizion unlock over the weekend too? I am hoping my Rogers Bold arrives in the mail tomorrow and I do not want to wait until Tuesday to unlock it.

If they dont', who will unlock it over the weekend?

Thanks

Not that I'm untrustworthy, but what can happen if my IMEI gets into the wrong hands? Is this risky?

I wouldn't risk it to save $5 or something like that. I wouldn't even risk it for free unless I somewhat trust them and not a someone who just registered to post to get you to email him.

That's just me though.

Your best bet is Horizon. Trustworthy and they are usually quick.

I agree with the question, how can my IMEI # getting in the wrong hands harm me, I'm assuming that a person can reprogram their cell phone's IMEI to match your's. So brings the question how much harm can be done ?

The best site for unlocking is GSM Phonesource.

They are the best and the fastest of all. I tried them myself.

Hi guys, just wanted to let you guys know, we do work on the weekends, and we are very fast with the codes. And as JC said, if you use the discount in his and other members signatures, a bold unlock will cost you $10.00. Probably one of the lowest rates on the internet. As you can see, we are recomended by the guys here cause we actually care about our customers and they all see that. We respond to questions, emails and are very active on this board. Whatever you folks need just let us know :-)

I get tonnes of unlock codes a week from Horizon and I couldn't be happier. Troymanca is excellent too! I know him personally!

I would highly recommend Horizion! You can't beat their price, and even if you could, you will not receive better service.

Wow I'm pumped, now I have an unlocked Bold!

Not that I'm untrustworthy, but what can happen if my IMEI gets into the wrong hands? Is this risky?

Please NOTE: just handing over imei #s to random email addresses can be dangerous - there are people, most in asia, that work on making FAKE handsets with dual band and cheap parts. They use your imei to make 1000's of devices, just so it can be a legit imei # and verifiable in a master db for that particular model #. This might not sound "so bad", but if 2 cellphones are registered on a north american provider with the same imei at the same time, The IMEI will be banned hence they will both get banned and blacklisted - this is a protection put in place to reduce the possiblilities of account hijacking / sim and imei cloning etc.

It is recomended to use a proper website for unlocking your phone that has a good rating and good reviews.

This might sound weird, why would want to unlock a Bold?

Don't you already get all the features with the phone?

A.

Unlock allows you to use another provider. Me for example...I have a Tmobile account when I visit my gf. No way I'm giving Rogers $1.80 / min to use my phone down there :)

Dont waist your money and time on different sites.

Just get it done from Adam _ GSM Phone source

he is the best for unlocking any Blackberry set, no matter which network it is.

Im not knocking anyone's service, these other guys are great. But we do it in a couple of hours for Rogers, and if you use a discount coupon from a members signature, unlock will cost like $10.00. Not too shabby!

Won't AT&T unlock the Bold for you for free if you have the phone with them?

yes they do. As long as u been with AT&T for 60 days or longer they will unlock ur phone for free. Depending on the customer service rep u get they will either just give it to u or tell u to add a roaming package. if they do then add the standard roaming. standard roaming is free.. Make sure the customer rep takes ur IMEI. i have gotten a few reps who gave me some bunk code becuz they didnt take the IMEI

Silly Q, but I have the Curve now. Where is a reliable/best best place to buy the Bold right now? Anyone got recommendations?

Jarrod623
11-16-2008, 04:23 PM
Does not matter where you go... Same price everywhere... However I have noticed that bestbuy has more accessories.

mjbanks
11-16-2008, 05:02 PM
I bought mine at Best Buy. Printed out the page from AT&T's website and they gave it to me for $549 instead of the $659 they're trying to charge without contract.

Jarrod623
11-16-2008, 05:43 PM
Yes my bad.... All phone prices with a contract activation or upgrade are regulated by ATT, however non-contracted pricing is a free-for-all and never the same anywhere.

They answered mine on the weekend, Sunday night though I was already sleeping! I wish I had known to put in the code for the discount though! Dang!!!

Quick question: How do we confirm the BB is actually unlocked?

I got my Bold unlocked through Horizon last weekend... too bad I didn't know about the code. But still, even without the code it was cheaper than others that I've seen.

easy way? put your tmobile friends sim card in your phone and see what happens... I dont know any other way.

Quick question: How do we confirm the BB is actually unlocked?

"Options"-->"Advanced Options"-->"SIM Card"...type M-E-P-D (won't show up on screen as you type)...If next to "Network" it says "Disabled, you're unlocked. If it says "Active" you're still locked to your carrier. Don't try to change anything on this screen!

Maybe putting your friends SIM card would be easier. Who knows.

Simple. And you can't hurt anything.

How do I determine if my BlackBerry is "unlocked"? - BlackBerryFAQ (http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/How_do_I_determine_if_my_BlackBerry_is_%22unlocked%22%3F)

DSS597

My phone is already unlocked. I paid for the code and I entered it myself. But what does that really mean? I don't know if it's really unlocked unless I jump on a plane, fly across the pond, and then try to use the phone with another SIM. So again how do I "confirm" my already unlocked phone?

Exactly what I was looking for. Much obliged!
