BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.90 (Multilanguage)
for the 8130 model, from US Cellular

NOTE: Download links removed from US Cellular's site as of 9/5/08.

Package Version: 4.5.0.90
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.66
* Software Platform: 3.2.0.48
* File name: 8130uAMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel90_PL3.2.0.48_A4.5.0.66_USCC .exe
* File size: 72.93MB

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=D707329BECE455A462B58CE00D1194C9

This is application version .66 not .90

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8130:

1. Make sure you have Desktop Manager 4.2 SP2 or higher installed.
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
2. Then Download the above mentioned OS file to the PC and install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

At the bottom of the first post in this thread is a link to the thread for the last OS. They are all daisy chained together this way..

When I go to Options/Advanced Options, there is a "Wireless Upgrade" option. Will this do the same thing for future OS?

JSanders
09-04-2008, 10:47 AM
Flash, that option has been disappearing for most after a short while, when service books are sent or at some point.

But supposedly, a wireless upgrade option is coming.

There is a trick, right? :) I hope so...

I've been running this version ever since it was a beta almost a month ago. As long as it's the same version number but released by different carriers, are they still identical?

Yes.

Anyone notice any differences between .56 and .66? When you receive a text message does the media player resume automatically or still require manually restarting the music? Just checking to see if it's worth upgrading. Thanks

Redflea
09-05-2008, 10:21 AM
Installed .66 and running it w/out issue so far.

A text message has no impact on the media player that I can discern...it just keeps playing while I read the message. Not sure why the media player would ever be affected by a text message, email, or other non-audible activity.

John Clark
09-05-2008, 10:31 AM
It's affected if you have an audible alert setup for text messages.

And if .66 was posted on BlackBerry.com, doesn't that mean it's "released"? So a link to it being hosted somewhere else should still be okay?

Did you notice this in the original post?

"NOTE: Download links removed from US Cellular's site as of 9/5/08."

What it actually means is "download link has been changed back to OS v4.3 as of 9/5/08."

I googled around and finally found a download of 4.5.0.66. It took a while because there have been lots of download links posted that are now dead.

I have installed .66 and it is working. But, I have now learned that upgrading the OS kills my BES connection, so I just kicked off a Reactivation and am waiting for that to finish before I can really tell anything.

Doh! It just finished. Yaaay! I'm back to getting my email!

Usually when a carrier puts it on their website, it's there for good. This is the second time in recent weeks that the OS have been put on the websites only to be pulled a week or so later.

It is very odd indeed.

I haven't seen any significant difference between the two, other than .66 allows you to create folders in different colors. For most of us, nothing to obsess over. :)

StuartV
09-08-2008, 02:39 PM
I have a couple of comments, now. :-)

- .66 did not fix my issue where I cannot use Bluetooth to create a tethered dial-up connection from my laptop.

- .66 did not fix my issue where, after being tethered for a while, when I disconnect, I don't get email sync to my phone (I'm on BES) for as much as 30 minutes, and then, when I do, I get all the email that I sent (via Outlook) showing up in the Inbox on my BB.

John Clark
09-08-2008, 02:50 PM
Are you sure problem number one is due to the OS and not to a setup issue on the PC? Installations and uninstallations of OS's and DM can remove the modems and the custom strings.

StuartV
09-08-2008, 02:56 PM
No, I'm not sure. But, I had XP Pro w/SP2 and my Pearl with OS 4.3 before and had no problem setting up tethered connections via both USB and BT.

Now, I've done a clean install of XP Pro and have SP3 and upgraded my Pearl to OS v4.5.0.56, and now 4.5.0.66, and I had no trouble creating the dial-up connection for USB, but can't get BT to work.

My device shows as successfully paired to my laptop in BT Devices in Windows. When I try to do Configure Bluetooth from the Blackberry Device Manager, I click on Add and I can see on my Pearl's display that it connects via BT momentarily, then the dialog in the BB Device Manager says "Verify that the Bluetooth enabled device is configured for use with the BlackBerry Desktop Software. For more information, contact your Administator."

I suppose it could be something about XP SP3, but that seems unlikely.

StuartV
09-08-2008, 03:01 PM
ps. If I connect my BB via USB, then go into Desktop Manager, Options/Connection options, it shows my connection type as USB-PIN with my PIN number, and the checkbox for Turn on Bluetooth Support is checked. If I click the button that says Configure Bluetooth, it's the same deal as I outlined above when doing it through Device Manager.

John Clark
09-08-2008, 03:05 PM
You aren't trying to have USB and BT at the same time are you? USB will take precedence.

StuartV
09-08-2008, 03:13 PM
pps. I just upgraded my Desktop Manager to what I had understood was v4.6.1. It actually says it's v4.6.0.12. The file name is 460_b015_multilanguage.exe. The filename of my previous version is 460_b008_multilanguage.exe.

Anyway...

Same results as before.

StuartV
09-08-2008, 03:15 PM
I had not tried to do the Bluetooth setup while hooked up via USB until 15 minutes ago. I had been always attempting it with the BB not hooked up via USB. Now I have tried it both ways. Same results.

Redflea
09-09-2008, 10:02 AM
OK...maybe a weird OS 4.5 .66 bug. A seemingly random subset of my calendar events are showing up on the wrong day, wrong time in the calendar on the BB. In Outlook they still display correctly.

For instance, I have a recurring event Wed at 7:00 - 9:00 PM, which is showing up on the BB as Tuesday night from 8:00 - 10:00 PM.

Another recurring is 3:00 - 3:30 PM, and it has moved to 4:00 - 4:30 on my BB.

Other events (recurring or otherwise) are appearing normally.

The events appear in the wrong place in any calendar view on the BB.

I've confirmed my time zone settings are correct. Default services settings are correct.

Anyone seen this?

I'm going to delete the calendar on the BB and re-sync from Outlook.

Redflea
09-09-2008, 10:19 AM
Deleted and re-synced calendar, all is fine now.

Just realized that I did a device swap recently, probably more likely that the problems were introduced by that process than by the OS, but I'll keep watching this after my next sync.

ofelas

I sure did; the only OS there is 4.3.0.97;
the reason I want to downgrade is because both the 4.5 versions I've installed on the 8130 result in constant "searching for network" issues in the basement.

It's technically in a weird state...released briefly and then pulled, why we don't know. I think the issue is that BB forums doesn't support posting links to BB OS SW that aren't official links, from carriers or RIM.

New members are going to keep coming here wanting to update their OS, and then ask where it's at, and then get in trouble because asking for an un-released OS is prohibited...even though this thread gives the idea that it is released. Wouldn't it be a good idea to remove this thread and re-sticky the last official 8130 OS thread, since this OS is no longer officially released?
