Using BB Messenger without data plan ?

hi there,
I have two blackberry phones and two voice plan with T mobile, both have the add on unlimited data plan for the 19.99. My wife really isn't taking advantage of the emailing function, instead, she uses the BB messenger only occassionally to IM me.
I discontinued her 19.99 unlimited data plan add on yesterday.

Question:

Can she still use the BB messenger? I know that BB Messenger uses GPRS, then may be I will only pay for what she uses, which is very limited.

Would it be better if she uses the IM Messenger which charge by the no. of text messages sent and received?

Any info would be great.

Nope, BB Messenger is based on RIM PIN-to-PIN messaging which go through RIM servers requiring a data package to do so.

If thats the case, the only way she can im me is thru Text messeaging (SMS)? Or can she use the Black Berry IM client?
