All of a sudden I have a Desktop icon on my home screen. It is a little envelope (just like the mail icon) but has a little blue world globe overlay on the envelope. I usually hide all the icons I don't use as soon as I get a new bb so maybe it was something I hid a long time ago. It seemed to appear after I installed Vlingo.

What is the difference between the desktop and the mail icon? The mail icon shows a different number in the ( )'s vs. the desktop icon when you roll over it which I figured was unread emails? Just wondering were it came from and whether it is useful and why it would show a different number of messages?

The 'Messages' folder is a catch all that will show you all emails and messages. The icon with an envelope and a globe is specific to one email account. Each email account that you setup will have its own icon in addition to the 'messages' icon that is already there.
