Hi all!

New to the Forum - 1st thread - to thanks in anticipation for your help.

I'm currently running a work provided Pearl, which is locked to T Mobile.

Unfortunatley, T Mobile doesn't offer service to my house (South London), so I only have SOS only when I'm at home.

Vodafone works perfectly at my house as this is my personal phone, but when speaking to my company to transfer the T Mobile contract line to Vodafone, they tell me that this is not possible as we only have contracts with T Mobile.

Is there any way to unlock the handset to "all networks" and use my Vodaphone network chip in the Blacknerry with a data package?

I'm not sure how the Blackberry servers work in line with our existing e-mail; are they specific to T Mobile, or does T Mobile only provide the networking facility and if I enable the Vodafone, enter the Blackberry details, will this work?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Phil

Welcome to BBforums :)

I suspect your T-Mobile BB is running through a corporate BES if it's provided by your employer. If you did get it unlocked, and put a Vodafone SIM in it, it would still work for data provided that your VF account had BES enabled on it - which will probably cost you an extra £30/month on top of your existing package so it's probably not worth it for you.

Tell your employer to sort it out themselves if they want you to be able to use it at home, it should be up to them to make sure it works where they want you to use it :)

BES doesn't care which carrier you're on. BIS, however, is carrier-specific.

Hi and thank you for your response(y)

The Vodafone I have is also work provided and paid for (I need to be client contactable at home, so the TMobile is no good), so you can see why I want the BB to be a Vodafone too!

Work can / will pick up the cost of the data aplication to the Vodafone, I just need to know whaty I need to do to get the handset to work on Vodafone instead of TMobile.

The unlocking and putting in a different sim just seems to simple ...

I thought that I would need to add new codes to the server to let it know where to sent the data etc...

Perhaps not?

Ah, I see.

How would I confirm which one we use? Can my handset tell me, or is that an IT Dept question?

Sorry for the basic level of knowledge here ...

Sounds to me like you need to talk to the IT head and explain that they are paying for two now and can make it one if they go with your option.

If you're on BES, then yes it is that simple - unlock, swap SIMs, bingo :)

But apparently, it appears that violates company policy and we all know what that could cause.

A pay rise? :)

Fantastic advice and thank you guys, much appreciated.

I've confirmed that the server is a BES server, so looks like I can take the simple route!

Got to get the BB unlocked now.

Thanks again (y)
