Does anyone have a notion why it's taking AT&T soooo long to release this OS version? I had to download my 4.5 (BB8800) from another source and it works just fine.

not sure why but as you found there are other sources and they are the same OS as they are all written by RIM

(y) Yes it does.

I don't think any one really knows the why.

Well, yes and no. AT&T, like other vendors, includes hooks to some of their own services, although AT&T seems to have less. In their case they want you to use their GPS software (AT&T Navigator); which you can always delete if you want another. I agree though....who knows. Looks like the trend of doing an end run around the vendors will continue. Thanks all.

lol, less? I have no less than 13 AT&T pushed services to my device.

None of them came with the OS, as I haven't run an AT&T OS on this device since the day it was purchases new in the box. It has been wiped clean twice.

Most "hooks" as you call it, are pushed by AT&T via a service book.

As for the ATT Nav, I do prefer it.

Wirelessly posted (BB 8330)

That's funny they actually push more than VZW.

My guess is that the new devices will be out before we see 4.5 officially with some of these other carriers if it matters.

Well for some reason it now matters to my company. In the past I've always used the newest software on my device regardless of which carrier released it. When 4.5 was "officially" available I loaded it. Soon after that I got an email telling me to downgrade which I did (it is company provided after all). In the email exchange I was told I had to wait until my carrier released it so I'm just chomping at the bit waiting for T-Mobile or AT&T (which we also use) to officially release 4.5.
