i just acquired 8830 from a friend of mine. I am not sure if the carrier is telus or bell... but it's gotta be one or the other since only those two services carry this phone. However, this phones seems to be missing the sticker under the batter with IMEI number, and also inside the phone system info, IMEI and ESN is stated as 0. Does this mean i can't use this phone?

When you power the phone on, and click on the Options icon, then Status, there isn't an ESN listed there?

Get your money back from your 'friend', if you paid him anything for this phone. This sounds like a hacked 'untraceable' phone and cannot be activated on anyone's network since they track the IMEI and ESN on their networks.

They used to do this on regular cell phones but I did not know that you could do this to a BB. Someone with more technical expertise in this area needs to enlighten all of us. Can this be done on a BB?

This is the first time I've ever heard of the ESN showing as 0.

I think I heard (from somewhere on this forum) that it is a hardware failure. Can't remember where I read it and it was a while ago..
