Can't change phone number

I bought the phone second hand and when I went to activate it and change the number it says "could not read data" and boots me out to the screen previous

has anyone ever come across this?

Call Bell and have them help you activate it.

They are no help, I told them and they said, "ummm, no phone's garbage, want me to trasfer you to our sales dept?"

It has to be programmed.

when I hit ##000000 to change all the numbers that's when it says Could not read data

Not sure how Bell works, but Sprint CMDA requires programming with a specific MSL code (the 6-digit code after the ## - but not usually 000000) and an MSID code that is 10 digits long.

Verizon CDMA just requires you to dial #228 and dial and it programs automatically.

When you called Bell, did they walk you thru something like either of those?
