Will BlackBerry OS 4.1 have Bluetooth Synch Support?

After reading through all of the features of the BlackBerry 8700, I barely noticed that it will have a new OS, version 4.1, that will have enhanced Bluetooth support allowing for PC Synch.

Do you think when 4.1 becomes available for older devices that they will support wireless synch as well?

yes i did see the 4.1 i am thinking that 3 to 4 months after the release of 8700 the new os will be available to other models, but that added bluetooth support is still kinda confuzing, because of security. I am guessing some 3 party bluetooth apps

- Expanded Bluetooth Support
*Serial Port Profile for PC Connectivity (i.e. sync with PIM)
*Extended Support for more Advanced Car Kits

- "Use once" in email will no longer be an option...
- Calendar improvements to include "dismiss all" option
- Attachement viewing enhancements to include the ability to view via browser app...(i.e., http://www.yahoo.com/document.pdf)
- "Enlarge all" option for pics
- Full PowerPoint support...(seeing the actual slide instead text within slide)

My 7100i has bluetooth sync support....you can't install apps or backup data, but syncing calendar, contacts, etc works just fine.

you can backup your handheld and also restore your handheld through bluetooth, the only thing, which kinda sucks is you can't install apps! kinda stupid on rim's part though!

- Bluetooth® radio connection functionality enables a BlackBerry device that is running version 4.1 or later of the BlackBerry Device Software to communicate with BlackBerry Desktop Software running on a computer with Microsoft® Windows® XP Service Pack 2 or later over a Bluetooth wireless radio connection. - PIM (Personal information management) and email redirection support for IBM® Lotus Notes® version 7.0 and IBM Lotus® Domino® version 7.0. PIM synchronization support requires an additional component download that is available in knowledge base article KB-04400 at

- A Reset Configuration button has been added to the Desktop Manager’s Intellisync™ section that resets a user’s PIM settings to the default.

- Added IBM Lotus Notes native encryption support for receiving and viewing encrypted messages. To use Lotus Notes native encryption, the BlackBerry device must be running BlackBerry device software version 4.1 or later with a BlackBerry Enterprise Server™ for Lotus Domino version 4.1 or later. The desktop computer must be running Lotus Notes version 7.0 or later with an account on Lotus Domino version 7.0 or later.

- The Application Loader remote function has been enhanced to allow system administrators to run basic device provisioning with little or no user interaction.

- Added data import wizard that imports PIM data from a Palm®/Treo™ device or a Windows Mobile™-based device to a BlackBerry device. Contacts, calendar entries, tasks, and memos can be imported. Note that the BlackBerry Desktop Software must be running on a computer with Windows 2000 or later. For this release, the import functionality is available in the English language Desktop Software install only.

The import wizard supports the following devices:

Windows Mobile OS-based devices running Microsoft Pocket PC 2003 SE, Microsoft Pocket PC 2003, Microsoft Pocket PC 2002, Microsoft Pocket PC 2000, Microsoft SmartPhone 2003 SE, Microsoft SmartPhone 2003, or Microsoft SmartPhone 2002

You said "4.1 handheld" but then posted "4.1 Desktop"

I wasn't confused, just in a hurry. So, to clarify, my post above contains the readme file from the newer desktop manager application.

But in any event, the device does sync via Bluetooth with the new desktop manager application, to answer the OP's question.

Why would they remove that?

They haven't really removed it just removed the extra steps.

When you compose an email you start typing the email and it will search your address book you can perform a GAL lookup, or just type the email address and do a "use once".

i sync with bluetooth every day. 7100i here and a bluetooth usb key from linksys using the windows drivers. works like a charm

I sync w/ an 8700 via bluetooth on two systems. No problem.

So, since my 7520 is running os 4.0.2, even though I'm running desktop 4.1, I'm out of luck on the bluetooth sync until an upgrade is available - which I will add is unlikely anytime soon since 4.0.2 was recently released?

when i had os 4.0 i wasnt able to sync over bluetooth at all. the device manager wouldnt recognize it. now im able to sync it easliy.........


also... i was able to connect the application loader to my blackberry which i wasnt able to do before. it says that over a normal bluetooth connection using the built in windows blue tooth manager you cant do it. but using a 3rd party bluetooth manager i was able to. has this happened with anyone else or is it okay to be surprised?
