is BB messenger only for BB users?

ok i know this may be a dumb question but can i use the bb messenger to message only others with BBs or anyone with a pin number? or do only BBs have pin numbers?

You can encrypt IM between two devices depending on the client used.

That's precisely what all the other IM options are for. Use Jivetalk and get others on suitable clients for their devices/PC's/Macs/whatever.

I use JiveTalk as well. However, I still prefer the BBM interface but I prefer the secure communication that Pshift mentioned.

That would actually be a pretty cool business opportunity for RIM. Sell virtual PINS and have a client that works on multiple platforms. I would probably pay a little have that feature.

RIM won't license PIN numbers. It's part of the leverage they have to convince people to go Blackberry. They're already killing Blackberry Connect, so I don't see much hope of them suddenly doing an about-face and offering BB services to non-BB owners.
