I got me a blackberry 7100i (Nextel) very cheap ($75) today. I use text messaging alot, and already have a plan with nextel. How can I continue to txt message my friends with the blackberry (if i can) and do I ABSOLUTELY need to upgrade to a blackberry plan? Also, If i was to switch from nextel to sprint in the future, could I use this blackberry with Sprint too?.

Wirelessly posted (Bold 9000)

Yes,you need a BB plan. Phone will not work on Sprint system.

I believe you can SMS/text message without a data plan if that is what you were inquiring about.

See link

I meant if I have a phone plan already, can I just use my blackberry for Phone and Nextel Direct Connect without having to add a "Blackberry" plan on?

And can I text with it? Such as to another nextel?

If you want to use email or web browsing you need the Blackberry data plan. But you can cancel your regular non-Blackberry data plan. For phone and SMS there is no data plan needed.

Thank you, thats what I was trying to make sure of.

Now how would I go about SMS on a 7100i? I can't seem to figure that out :(

To create an SMS, open your Mail folder, hit the Menu button, and choose Compose SMS from the list. You'll find there is the right way to do things, the wrong way, and the Blackberry way. ;)
