Mass email delete function lost after OS upgrade to 4.5.0.110 and Desktop Mgr to 4.7

I seached around and can't find a solution that works on my 8820. After the above updates, I checked the device mailbox and found many, many duplicates of the same old messages. The "delete prior" function doesn't work-the hourglass just sits there and times out. The ALT click delete method to designate a group doesn't work, either.
Any ideas, O Learned Ones?

Might be a couple of things, given taht you did the phone OS and DM upgrades pretty close together. (No harm in that, I've done it myself-just need to start narrowing down possibilties).

Basics first: Have you done a battery pull as yet?
