I just got a Blackberry with unlimited internet access and have been using it to surf the internet--I am in some private Yahoo Groups and can read and reply to messages. I can read the compuserve forum messages but can't find a way to reply. I've put in my user name and password with Compuserve but I still can't get to reply to the forum messages--any suggestions? Regards, Len

It may be the java.
Load mini.opera.com and try that browser or see if your forum has a wap site.

Thanks, I'll try mini.opera. I'm not too good with computers and devices--don't know what a wap site is? Regards, Len

Now I find another problem--I have files in my PC--certain word pad reviews of music and I wanted to get them someplace--anyplace--on my Blackberry--couldn't figure out how to do this--where to send the file on the Blackberry. Tried memo pad but there's something about mapping fields. I think I'm gonna need a course. Regards, Len

I don't understand--I can't transfer material from my Dell PC to the Blackberry? Regards, Len

You can transfer files from your PC, yes. But depending on what kind of files they are, you may or may not be able to open them on the BlackBerry.

Take a read through the BlackBerryFAQ here and it will explain a lot of things, including how to transfer files from your PC to your BlackBerry and vice-versa. You need to have Desktop Manager installed. Also you should have a media card so you don't use up the device memory.

If it is a MS Word document and you are on the BB Curve you can view/edit them with a free application package called Documents to Go. The only problem I see right now: You stated you have very limited BB and PC experience and you would need to have an Operating System of 4.5 or higher as I'm guessing your Curve probably came with version 4.3.0.127 (if your on Verizon). If I were you, I'd wait and gain some general BB experience and then you can upgrade your phone yourself for free by following the instructions on this website.

>you may or may not be able to open them on the BlackBerry. <

I'm figured out how to send a word pad file from my PC to my BB--did it as an email attachment and was able to read the file on the BB--however setting up a filing system is proving bulky. I see that BB has a memopad in it--I'm wondering if the memo pad is also someplace on my PC--if I could type something on the PC I suppose there's a way to then synchronize it and transfer it over to the BB.

Thanks so much for this link--I got a lot of reading ahead of me! Regards, Len

If you go to Options > About on your phone, the version will be listed right under where it says

BlackBerry 8330
smartphone (3G, CDMA)

You bought that 8830 brand new? I only ask because that is a beta release of 4.5

Yes, at least I think I was buying a brand new one--everything was nicely packaged like a new product. Just today I'm mailing back a rebate entitling me to $70 back for the purchase. Regards, Len

That is the same version on my new Curve 8330 that I picked up from Verizon via the "New Every Two" last week. Looks to be out of Beta and into production.

Len- I have been on Treo700wx for over 4 years. You will get used to the Blackberry soon and will be kicking yourself for not getting one sooner.

I am pretty sure that 4.5 is out for the 8330 though, not the 8830 on Verizon though. Bell just, and I mean just, released 4.5 the other day for their phones. Verizon has not released it.

Len - where did you purchase this phone from?

Version 4.5.0.77 has been available on the verizonwireless website for quite some time. It was SPRINT that finally released an official 4.5.0.131 version a few days ago. Verizon is insanely slow...But not as slow as Sprint, I guess!

Anyhow, thats good len864! You should have an icon that displays Documents to Go and inside that "folder" there are 3 apps. They can open/edit & save MS WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT files...

Good luck!

Gee I hope so--it took me forever to get one musical clip and a photo from my Dell PC to the BB--someone from Verizon wireless walked me through it over the phone--it took about an hour. When I bought the BB they gave me the disc without Media Manager--it had to be downloaded from the BB site--took forever to download and be installed in my computer. Regards, Len
