8300 problems after software update attempt

I just attempted to update my desktop manager and applications software on my 8300. I updated from 4.2 to 4.7. after installing my application software I have no address book. I have a backup from my previous desktop version. (4.2). Do I have to reinstall v4.2 to restore this backup? How do I uninstall 4.7 and reinstall 4.2 if I have to? How do I "point" the desktop mamager to the backup file?

Now that's a lot of problems.

You don't need to downgrade to 4.2 to restore your backup. You should be able to load your backup image from 4.7.

I restored my backup, but for some reason it did not restore the address book (the only thing I really need, of course). The two backups I look at with the Desktop manager show no data in the address books. I am very frustrated. I don't understand how this has happened.
