You need to contact your service provider. I have Verizon and there is an additional $15. per month fee for "tethering". After the tethering feature is turned on, software also needs to be installed onto the laptop in order to work. If your laptop has blue-tooth you can also tether without the usb cable.
There are roundabout ways with Windows based phones (ex: Palm), without the fee. I believe that's not an option with BB (it may be a security issue). Good luck.

Here is a starting point, but do like stach says and contact your service provider from a landline phone. They can talk you thru it.

I had this working a year ago, but I simply cannot get it to work on my laptop with Vista any more. It is really frustrating because I have went over and over instructions but cannot seem to get a connection, it instantly fails.
Is there something different with an 8820 and vista 32 bit?
