Recurring reminders when syncing

I have a perpetual problem when syncing my 8310 to Outlook with Desktop Manager. While syncing the calendar entries, my PC will pop up with reminders that are a few days or sometimes weeks old. These are usually for recurring appointments that were dismissed a long time ago on both the 8310 and in Outlook. I tried resetting my sync configuration, but that didn't seem to help the problem.

What is causing this and what's the fix?
