I was trying to update my blackberry curve 8300 series 4.2 software, I had just got last saturday, to a 4.5 software. Nearing the end, it seemed to have frozen, using blackberry desktop manager. It was "loading applications or something like that, and i pressed cancel and it said fatal error has occured, and it doesn't turn on at all now. All i does is blink its LED red like 2 times in a row every 5 seconds. PLEASE HELP I have tried everything, taking out the battery, putting it back in, the application loader thing with the command prompt, and it doesn't connect at all, not for 4 seconds or whatever.

Welcome to the forums.

You have to be patient when upgrading your OS. It could a while before it finishes.

What happens when you follow these steps? What to do next if Jl Cmder will not connect and wipe - BlackBerryFAQ (http://blackberryfaq.com/index.php/What_to_do_next_if_Jl_Cmder_will_not_connect_and_wipe)

And, please don't double post your questions. Let's keep everything in this one thread.

It should load the OS you have installed on your PC. Follow the prompts and be patient!

the java loader still doesnt find the device, after the apploader thing as well, Im completely stuck, and screwed.

the apploader sais
"the blackberyy desktop software does not have blackberry device software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system adminstrator."
After i loaded the USB-PIN: UNKOWN in the "aplication name" field

You have an 8300, correct? Not an 8310 or 8320?

You need to have the software installed on your PC. If the software is not that of your carrier, you will need to delete the vendor.xml file.

killa9512

it might be an 8310, i just got it last saturday, although i dont know the difference between the 8320 and 8330, although the device software was 4.2, im pretty sure its an 8310 though

killa9512
02-13-2009, 03:52 PM
yeah definetly an 8310

That is pretty important information to know, especially when trying to upgrade your OS. Look on the sticker under the battery. What does it show?

Alright, here is the OS and the steps you will need to update your OS.

http://www.blackberryforums.com/general-8300-series-discussion-curve/170511-latest-os-8310-4-5-0-174-4-5-0-124-english-eastasian.html

When you get it to connect, it should load this OS once it's installed on your PC and the vendor.xml file has been removed.

jsconyers

You don't "need" it for the upgrade, no.

killa9512

what if deleting vender.xml, then all that other stuff doesn't get it to connect?

If i know for sure my blackberry device HAD like its device software 4.2 does that mean it's was an 8320?

Is your phone still under warranty?

yes but im pretty sure they'll tell me its my fault because i stopped it and was impatient, although it got messed up and froze in the first place cuz i was trying to get 4.5 software on my blackberry, with 4.3 desktop software. so i dont know what to do.
Yes it's still under warrenty, i'm only 15 years old, im a freaking kid, and i cant go in there myself, cuz i dont know how my parents will react.

Perhaps you should try this.

1. Uninstall everything BB-related software from your computer (ie desktop manager, 4.5 OS software, etc). Perhaps the computer software is confused hence the "Unknown USB error".
2. Then install all the BB-related software that came with your BB. Just to get your BB back to a "running" condition.
3. If 1 and 2 is successfully, then you can retry the OS 4.5 upgrade.

I hope this helps and best of luck.

I dont think that's going to help though sorry, because it's a problem with the BB not my computer

I had the same problem twice. what i did was i tried a soft reset which is alt, the right caps, and delete. All at the same time. Then if that desn't work just reinstall everything I mean everything install the newest desktop manager (4.7) then install the newest OS for the 8310 and make sure you delete the vendor file at computer/program files/common files/research in motion/app loader... then open the desktop software and plug in your bb and if nothing happens then i don't think there is anything you can do. And if you do have to get a new one under warranty don't tell them what you did duh tell them you did nothing just lie.

now depending on if you have vista and you have a 64 bit OS it might be under program files (x86)

Everything here has failed, my blackberry has yet to turn on, let alone connect to my computer, thanks for trying to help, but it looks as if I have completely broken my blackberry, and I will have to get a new one, unless theres some strategy you have not told me about yet, if there is tell me now, if not, then im screwed. There is absolutely no answer to my problem at the moment.

killa9512
02-13-2009, 04:56 PM
OK that hasn't worked either, i will just tell them my thing froze canceled it, unplugged it and it stopped working, I don't know if that voids the warranty, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't I just got it, and there's insurance on it for just about everything

Izzumn54
02-13-2009, 04:58 PM
don't tell them you were updating it... self user updating kills the warranty just say that when you plugged it into the wall it fried and they will send you a new one for free but you use the same battery and same battery door and if you don't send back the old one they charge you for the full price so send the old one back immediately! :)

Ill just say I was plugging it into my computer then when i unplugged it, after installing the desktop manager, it fried.
