View Full Version : Blackberry 8700 - can't get past the spinning hourglass

I bought a new Blackberry 8700 from a reputable Ebay seller. I charged the battery and booted up the phone. It booted fine. I made a call, it worked fine.

Then I used the "Device Switch Wizard" in desktop manager to move my data and settings from my previous Blackberry 8700 to the new one. Partway through the data transfer, the new device began turning on and turning off. As it repeatedly went through its re-boot efforts, it never got past the "spinning hourglass". It would just turn off after about 15 seconds, then try to restart again unsuccessfully, then repeat.

I've taken the battery out for an extended period of time, replaced it, but it doesn't help. I still get the same problem. I've also tried pressing "ALT CAP DEL" twice as other board memebers have suggested. That doesn't do anything either.

How do I fix this problem? There doesn't appear to be a reset button anywhere. I'm at my wits end.

Welcome to the forums.

You may need to reinstall the OS. Here are the steps on how to do so.

Thanks for the welcome and for the advice. Will this work and install the OS even though the phone isn't booted??

If your PC recognizes the device, you shouldn't have an issue.

Ok. I'll give it a try. Alternative is exchanging the device for a different one from the Seller. They have been very professional and are very cooperative, so I know this will turn out okay eventually. Thank you again.

Good deal. Let us know how things work out for you and which route you end up going.

Hopefully it will not be the "throwing it against the wall and then jumping up and down on it repeatedly" route. :)

The 8700 is a tough device, it may still work after that

Best of luck (y)
