To use the device as it's intended, yes. You will get more features from the BB data plan, such as BB Messenger, BB Maps, etc.

If you have an individual plan (BIS) purchase the 19.99 plan. The other plan is for those that have BES (business Enterprise Services) which allows for integrating your phone to your corporate e-mail system. I hope this helps.

This is not correct. The price has increased by $5/mo.

The BIS plan is now $24.99.

Thanks for the correction dc/dc. I am sorry I misquote the price. However, my main point stands, and that is that the difference between the two plans in the posted link is that one is a BIS plan and the other a BES plan. Unless I am corrected again :-)

the "only" plan was unlimited data (internet, data access, e-mail) for $19.99 a month.

It is now the $24.99 plan which is the same unlimited data but now 400 txt msg as well. Think of it as the $19.99 plan plus the $5 400 txt msg package, their forcing you to buy the text.

This kind of blows for those who are on family plan with unlimited text, or the $99 unlimited plan which includes unlimited text, you still pay $24.99 for the blackberry plan (they should at least give you a discount!).

However, calling customer care, you should still be able to request the old $19.99/mo plan. It's not listed, but you can tell them to find it. The SOC/plan code is BWCS (BB BIS AddOn). Tell them the SOC code is BWCS and they should be able to add it.

I like the Blackberry minutes and mail plan for $59.99. You get 1000 minutes of talk, unlimited texting and unlimited data. There are no night or weekend minutes, but if you add $10/month you get unlimited UMA (WiFi) minutes that don't count toward your 1,000 limit.
