My mom bought a broken blackberry off a friend who figured it was beyond repair and gave it to me to see if I could find a way to make it work again.

Now, I just took it to a cellphone repair place, and they replaced the charging port for me (it was badly taken care of). Apparently the phone is a bit banged up on the inside, so ... :[

However, when I plug it in, the red light comes on for about oh, 10-20 seconds, and it goes off. After that, the screen pops up with a dead-battery image, and it promptly goes off again, appearing to take no charge.

When I take the battery out, it does the same thing, however the screen that pops up says it's partially charged (??). I figure the thing is perhaps dead beyond repair, and while I am going to take it back tomorrow to the repair center to see if there's any other trouble shooting that can be done, I'd like to see if there's anyone here who knows if this is worth salvaging without replacing everything. Or, if there is a diagnostic pattern.

Also, the blackberry is not recognized by the computer. I hope the repair center has a battery I can test it with, because I do not know anyone with a blackberry to help me test it. :[

Any help is appreciated! Thank you.

Hve you tried a different battery? If that at least keeps it powered up, check the OS version, and try updating the OS.

I realize that's the first step, but I haven't had a chance to. I've had the phone less than a week, and the repairman took my word for it (he's a bit bogged down in general so he did what he could to repair the obvious item and gave it backed to me). So the short answer is, no.

This is great! It really shows me where to expand my blog. I think that sometime in the future I might try to write a book to go along with my blog, but we will see…Good post with useful tips and ideas

Well, if I was in your situation, i would assume that the reason it doesnt work is because you bought a "way beyond repair" blackberry...
