how can I check if I am connected via BES or BIS when browsing the internet?

All depends on the browser you're using. Blackberry Browser goes through BES/MDS. Internet Browser/Browser does not.

Open the browser
Call up menu
Go to Options
Go to Browser Configuration
On the line saying "Browser" - what does it say?

It does not go through BES then.

Under the menu referenced above, do you have any options to change the browser from "Internet Browser"? If so, what options do you have?
