Well, today is the big day. My Bold is set to be delivered. I feel so excited and unprepared. I've been reading everything I can find and lurking here for quite some time, but due to the huge size of these forums, there is lots of what may be old/incorrect info. So I turn to you Blackberry nation for a few answers.

1. I have 2 email accounts. 1 Gmail, and 1 @<hidden> work (POP or IMAP). What would be the best way to set these up if I will be checking mail on my Bold and my laptop? The Gmail app? Or at the AT&T BIS site?

2. I use Outlook 2007 for my work email. Will my calendar & tasks sync magically to my new Blackberry when I set it up? What happens if I add a new task or calendar entry on my phone or in Outlook? Will it be copied both ways?

3. What is the best way to get my contacts (names, emails, phone numbers, etc) into my phone? Right now they are pretty scattered; I've got work stuff in Outlook, personal stuff in Gmail, and all my phone numbers in my crappy flip phone. Should I just enter everything into Outlook so it will copy to my Bold?

I know these questions are a lot, but I'd appreciate any answers you could give me. There is just SO much knowledge here that it's tough to know what I can believe. Thanks!!!

1. Setup the personal email on the ATT BIS site. If you can receive work email via POP, set that up on BIS too.

2. No. Unless you are connected to a BES (a server for your work email) calendar and task will not sync. You must use the Desktop Manager software and use a USB cable to sync.

3. Depending on the "crappy flip phone" you may be able to use the "switch device" function in Desktop Manager to copy contacts. Otherwise, the best option would be to input all into outlook and sync as per above.

Awesome. Thanks for the info Midnightdraven.

I figured that I would have to use the DM software and cable. I just wanted to be sure that my calendar and tasks WILL sync if I use it. I didn't know if maybe the software and cable just synced email.

Do you know what happens if I read/delete an email on my Bold? Will it still be in Outlook, or will it be deleted there also?

I'm actually spending this morning putting all my numbers and stuff in Outlook so hopefully it will be all done when FedEx shows up. =)

Any idea what will happen if I have multiple contacts with the same phone number? Like for my parents, I have:
mom cell
mom home
dad cell
dad home
But, the 2 home numbers are the same. Hopefully that won't make it go screwy.

If you are not on BES, your email will not be synched with Outlook.

Not a problem to have multiple contacts with the same number.

If you put multiple numbers in Outlook under 1 contact, thats how they will appear on the BB (multiple numbers under 1 contact). Won't make things "screwy"

DM does not sync email at all for BIS (though I know for BES there is an email settings options in DM)
DM only syncs, contacts, calendar, tasks and i believe notes.

If you receive an email on the blackberry and it hasnt arrived in outlook, when you delete from BB and select "from mailbox and handheld" it will evnetually delete that message from the server and so will never make it to outlook.
