Hello all. I am a new BB owner and have not yet begun to play with it. I am a former Treo 600 user but with my new service and company I have gone with the BB. I love the email feature and since I will be a way from my computer most of the day, I felt this was a better solutuion. What should I know and what should I buy extra to maximize this new device. Wisdom please BB faithful.

Welcome to BBF, if you have one of the newer devices a Bluetooth headset is always a nice addition. Does your company use BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server) if so you'll need to get the desktop re-director setup, otherwise you'll need to setup you BWC (Blackberry Web Client) configured.

Definately get a leather holster (if you didn't get a 7100)... they take a while to wear in, but they work much better than the plastic one it comes with (although some people really don't like the leather holster... not sure why).

The leather one has the break in period. I didn't like mine at first either until it broke in.
coop, what model blackberry did you get?

I have the leather holster on my BB7750. I am finding that when the phone rings and I "pull it out" I wind up in MUTE mode. Any suggestions on how to avoid this from happening?
Other than that, I agree that the leather holster is much better than the plastic one. The platic one kept spinning all over the place.

I got the 7750 from Verizon. Looks like a very nice piece of equipment. I have been reading about the 4.0 upgrade, I take it that is something I should plan on doing? What about software to work Office applications are those worth the money?

I'm a new blackberry user, and have been one for about a month now. I am an individual user seeing as how I am an assistant manager of a pet store, and they have know need to distribute any type of devices to their assitants... oh well.
I have had a really good experience with the blackberry 7290. When I first received the blackberry, I had know trouble working my way around the system thanx to the awesome manual provided by blackberry, which I read before I received my unit, and these excellent forums which I have been reading since I ordered the 7290.
Just thought I'd submit another new user post, hoping that this will help persuade others to think about investing in a blackberry.

I got the leather holster for my 7290. There was a break in period, but it works good now (especially since I trimed the elastic band). You may have to trim the band as well. I had the key tones active and found that the band was holding in the escape button the whole time. Love it now. With the Bluetooth, it works good. The battery does not last as long with Bluetooth active, though. Don't get the Motorola HS801 headset sold with the Cingular units. It is OK but kind of cheesy. Spend a few extra for the HS810 or 820. I also love my desktop stand for my desk and nightstand. The folks at SmartPhoneDepot.com were very helpful.
