View Full Version : Blackberry back lighting

I have read several faqs and they all point to things like turning off the auto dim etc. But that is not what I want to know. Especially as it did not work.

I can at times have three positions for the backlight using my power button, off, dim and bright. Other times I have off and dim. Is there a way to always have the three way setting?

I have read the 8830 has a light sensor under the LED, and that by covering it you can fool it into thinking it is in a darker space, but that works intermittently for me and I would rather just be able to set the light level at will.

I don't understand what it is you want to do. Sounds like you are aware of and have looked at the screen/keyboard setting page in options.

I see what you mean about toggeling between off, on dim, and on bright. Never used this feature and don't know what would cause the three-way action to go to only two-way. But other than that, I'm not clear on what you are looking for.

Really just to make it always be three position. I read a lot on my BB, and when I am outside during lunch it never goes full bright.

I find the "automatic" light adjustment does not seem to work reliably. I presume that when there is bright light hitting the screen (and sensor) that the light on the BB should get brighter so I can read it - that does not always work. I can test it by placing a finger over the led and many times, nothing changes.

I do generally get the 3-way affect by pressing the on/off button. That's generally how I get it brighter when I need to read in bright-light situations.

I understand now. I don't have an answer. I think you'll need to experiment and pay attention and try to find a pattern that causes the issue you observe. Maybe you've already been doing that.

Aye, I have been trial and error exploring it, but you know, if I could have taken the lazy way out, I would :-)

If I'm going to be outside a lot, I turn the auto dimming OFF. The glare of being outside doesn't let the auto dimming work properly. It keeps the screen too dim. It's much easier to see in bright, artificial lighting as opposed to bright, sun lighting.

Also, as far as I know, the 3 way is always on. Just try the different scenarios with auto dimming both ON and OFF, and use the power button.
