I have installed Blackberry Desktop Manager & have connected my 8330 curve for back-up. It says back-up was successful, but when I try to open to read, gives an error message about not being able to open either because it isn't a supported file type or it was damaged. I'm trying to open with Adobe Reader 9.0. Tried on another laptop & same message occurs.

You cannot open this file natively with a pc. It's designed to be used to restore a BlackBerry, not opened and altered. Adobe Reader is not going to open it, nor will anything that comes standard with Windows. You might have luck with ABC Amber Converter (http://www.processtext.com/abcblackberry.html).

The backup files created by the desktop manager have an extension of ".ipd"

You will not be able to open them with Adobe.. You will need ABC Amber converted or just restore the backup.. other then that no other way I know of to view an IPD file
