Here's a great review of the 8700c. It's compared with the Treo650.

What do you mean, "When I get it tomorrow?" Can I order it somewhere already?

Thanks!

It looks like they are going to go with the 7100 series batteries, but I do not undestand in the review about java support? The phone supports javascript like the rest, or is the another java he is looking for?

Java and Java script are two different things. Java usually requires an applet to be sent to the device where it is executed in the Java sandbox. Normally for security reasons you would want those Java applets to be signed with a digital certificate. Java script does not post the same issues since it uses the Java script interpreter included with the browser that has presumably been tested from a security standpoint and is considered safe.

This is one of the big reasons for the push to AJAX (a combination of Java script and XML) for web application development. I know that is why we are developing our new applications using AJAX technology.

It looks like they are going to go with the 7100 series batteriesClose, but not quite. They are the same size, but the 8700 batteries are "smart". This means the 8700 smart batteries can be used in 7100, but the 7100 batteries cannot be used in the 8700.

The 8700 smart battery has an anti-counterfeiting chip, to prevent dangerous cheaply-made battery clones that could overheat (or even explode). The 8700 device will look for this chip in any battery inserted, so an older 7100 non-smart battery without this chip will be 'refused' by the 8700 device.

However, the 8700 smart battery is backwards compatible with the 7100 device.

In simple words:
8700: Requires smart battery (8700 battery only)
7100: Can use either smart or non-smart battery (7100 or 8700 battery)

In the long term, all 8700/7100 batteries will be smart so this will be moot if you buy a new RIM-branded battery manufactered after today -- they'll work in either device.
