Depends on if you have a BB data plan or not. No data plan, no email and no BB browser and use of WiFi is somewhat problematic depending on what your carrier allows.

I've been using Blackberry Wi-Fi (with a data plan) since the 8820 came out. I don't see my bills, but the guy in the office who does has never complained about me going over the limits even though I do a a lot of high traffic activity when I'm near a hotspot like work, home or other places I frequent.

With a blackberry data plan using the Wi-Fi is as easy as connecting to the various hotspots and letting it happen.
