Welcome to the forums!

Do you have a BlackBerry data package on your account with your carrier? It won't help with the call failure, but it will make a difference in you being able to e-mail, SMS, etc.

I'm using a prepaid service here and what I know it has a data plan

By way of testng, can you try it using a different SIM card? Or try your SIM in a different phone?

I tried using a different sim card and still no luck. The current sim card that I am using is working in my Nokia phone. I can also browse the web in my nokia phone using the said card. I even tried a different carrier (SMART Communication) but still not working.

It sounds like the device itself is defective. Is there any way for your brother to contact th e-bay seller?

my brother used the phone for 2 months using a T-Mobile service and no problem encountered. He can make call, send SMS and check email using this device.

It can only be one of three things: The SIM, the device , or how the service is set up with your carrier.

Sounds like you have proven the SIM isn't the problem.

Maybe if you can contact your carrier to verify how your service is set up, there will be something that will come to light.

If not, you can safely assume it is a a defective BlackBerry.

thanks for the advice ndub33 but i dont want to think that there is a problem with the sim or my device is defective and my service provider setup is not that complicated as to compare with other. I'm still hoping that this is just a device software or configuration issue and i know that one day i can make this thing work with the help of this forum.
