Some carriers require you to have a data plan upon purchase.
Also note email, bb messenger, and most apps will not work without a bb data plan

i believe a blackberry on att is required to have a data plan.
and i thought if they found out you were using a phone that they requred a data plan per the toa, they could add it for you without notice.
the blackberry isnt like a ipod touch, you cant use wifi for everything. like midnightdraven stated many features require you to have a data plan whether you are connected to wifi or not.

You probably will not be able to buy a BB 8900 from ATT without a data plan. But, if you buy an unlocked BB 8900, I believe you can use it a a regular (unsmart) phone without a data plan. If so, you don't need a BB 8900 unless you want to show others that you have a BB 8900.

Verizon requires it but AT&T does not. However without a data plan on AT&T you may not be eligible for any rebates.

Pretty much all of the replies in your other thread apply to this one as well.
