Go to Profiles and set one up that will only notify you if you get a call or an SMS. You will still receive email but won't be notified that it is there.

You can't 'turn off' the email. but you can definitely stop email from forwarding to your device.

Not sure why you would own a BB and not want to use it for email But that's another question.
