Which BlackBerry - For a Teen?

Hi all

First of all I'm 14 you may think that I'm wierd that I have a BlackBerry but I am absolutely hooked on it.But I think my RIM 957 is dying.For starts in the UK, The Transcomm Network is phasing out Mobitex in favour of GPRS so the service on my RIM keeps dropping out.Also I have a number of problems with the RIM and Transcomm
1)Customer Service is Nonexistant
2)There are no Roaming Capabilities

So after this,can anybody recommend a cheap BlackBerry to replace my 957 and can I migrate my messages from the 957 to my New BlackBerry?

try the 71XX series if it's available in your area. it has suretype, but i think the 71XX series is a good "teen" device.

Personaly if I were you I'd check out the treo devices, they have more features that todays teen would use. If your set on a blackberry then I second the 7100 series, you can find those decently cheap online. If you want a full keyboard then I'd get a 72**.

you guys are funny. he asked about blackberry, not "which devices, in general, should i be looking at?" otherwise i would have pointed him in the direction of the sidekick2. crashes a whole lot less than a treo (almost never in my experience), and is even easier to learn than palm os......but, i guess, you know what they say about opinions.........

When you say 'teen' device, what would you describe as 'teen' features? Text, IM and email are increasingly popular and are executed far better on, say a Blackberry 71xx than on a Treo (IMHO).

Personaly if I were you I'd check out the treo devices, they have more features that todays teen would use.It bear worth noting the following:
(1) The original poster is using a 957. This is a full keyboard device and does not have many features.
(2) The 7100 has a bigger learning curve for a 957 user;

Therefore, I recommend waiting for the model 8700 to come out. It probably may be fairly expensive (like a Treo). So a 7290 is a good alternative idea, I would recommend the 7290 instead of a 7230 if possible, because of the extra features a 7290 has.

Treo's would have features useful for a teen, but if the original poster is using a 957, there is still far more multimedia even in a 7290 than a 957. This implies a very good reason he is using 957, and therefore a Treo is an inappropriate answer without asking why he is sticking to a 957 when there are obviously more multimedia-friendly cellphones out that can now be had for cheap -- for what it worth, he might be a young CEO or computer whiz. On the other hand, maybe the 957 was a gift to him and he may really be better off with a Treo. (But you know, he might already have an iPod Nano and may not give a hoot about MP3's on a cellphone!)

Hi All

Unfortunately I don't have an iPod Nano but I do like them.I tried a 7100x in an O2 shop once but I found that the interface was clunkier than the 72XX Series but I don't really care about MP3's on my phone.I also like the 7290 as it has Bluetooth plus there pretty cheap on T-Mobile at the Minute.

I also like the 7290 as it has Bluetooth plus there pretty cheap on T-Mobile at the Minute.Don't forget the screen is much brighter when you press the backlight button two times. (Almost as bright as the 7100, not quite -- but almost). That's something you can't do on the 7230.

There's also more memory -- 32megs instead of 16megs -- and you also get quadband and a generally better keyboard than the 7230.

Glad my assumption was right that if you had 957, you probably didn't care about MP3 on a phone and you were used to BlackBerry reliablity. And that my 7290 recommendation hit the nail -- relatively cheap now, better than 957, better than 7230, full qwerty like 957, and still much more full featured than 957. I knew you were not a typical phone user of your age group if you were carrying a 957 -- there had to be a good reason.

First off - holy smokes, I had a bloody Nokia 5125 (aka 5165) on prepaid back when I was 14... And you have both a smartphone and Blackberry (and by the looks of it, a PowerBook as well)..

Why not merge the MPx200 and the 957 into one phone: The BlackBerry 8700? The 8700f is coming out in France, and probably would follow in your country soon. Plans on just having one unit is usually cheaper that way in the long term...

CAn anyone say partyline with the rotary dial. You had to quietly pick up teh reciever to make sure no one else was on the line because you shared it with about 10 neighbors down teh road.
