can't find the email icon

I just got a new blackberry 8120 running on tmobile network. I didn't get the data plan, but I was told that I can still get my gmail emails forwarded to my phone without internet wifi connection. is this possible? and also, I cannot find my register email icon on my blackberry desktop. Am I forgetting something? Shouldn't it just be there? I already did the show all option.
