Uninstalling single-tap method completely

Apologies if this has been asked.

Is there a way to completely uninstall/remove the single-tap input method on a Pearl, leaving only the multitap option?

(I ask this because I switch constantly between English and Chinese Pinyin input methods, and whenever I switch back to English, it sets the default as the single-tap method. Setting multitap as the default in the options works temporarily, but this reverts as soon as one switches to Chinese and then back to English.)
