OK, let's do this:
I just got a new 7290 from work. From what I understand the service is under AT&T which is "blue". I hate carrying the BB around outside of work and want to buy an unlocked GSM phone. I want to just swap the SIM card since my personal phone # is tied to this device and they are footing the bill. I also want to seperate my work contacts on the BB from my personal phone numbers. Even better would be to clone the card and just keep the BB off when I only want to carry the phone. I've heard that data won't work when I put the AT&T card in the new unlocked phone. Is this true? Will SMS work? Camera photos? Can I basically get any unlocked phone like the RAZR, Nokia, etc.? Any advice and/or pointers are appreciated, thanks!

You can get an unlocked phone and put your BB SIM in it and the phone will work. You can put your personal addresses on your SIM and then access them in both the BB or phone, but I would still leave them in the BB address book so they are easier to access (and you can keep more info in the BB on each contact; on SIM only phone number and your storage is limited, probably about 250 numbers). Photos cannot be stored on a SIM, so you will have to load them on each device separately.

As for data and SMS, I'm not totally certain. I used to put my BB SIM (an old ATT SIM) in a phone once in a while, but never messed around with the phone except to make calls. BBs work on a BB plan, not a cell phone data plan, so you may not be able to get data on the phone (and if you can, it may be a per kb rate that will kill you). I think SMS should work, but you'll pay per message (I think).

Others here surely know more about data and SMS. And, I think there are some prior threads on all of these issues. Try a search.
