Loaded the Hong Kong 4.0 HH software and the Cingular DM software last night. Went very well. I did notice that the screen is not as brilliant or bright as it was with the 3.8 software. Anyone else have this problem?

Actually loading it up right now myself, I'll let you know if I see a difference...

Is it still a two-step backlight (dim and bright)?
Or did it revert to only one-step (dimmer only)?

Interesting. I've been running 4.0.0.185 on my 7290 without noticing any difference in the backlight. Still two levels: normal and insanely bright (useful as a flashlight).

I don't notice any changes in the backlight on my 7290 either. I'm also running the HK firmware

Backlit is fine my 7290 as well after the 4.0 update.

I'm experiencing the same screen issue with HK 4.0. Additionally, I swear my bluetooth volume is much lower, anyone else notice the same? I am going to go back to 3.8 tonight and see....

Now that you mention it, the past 2 times I used the BT headset, I had to hike the volume up to maximum to hear the calling party. I attributed it to walking on a busy street. Let us know what you find.

Yep, using 3.8 I use the volume @<hidden> 3/4. With 4.0 I have to crank all the way up and it's still not really loud enough. Hopefully Cingular (AT&T) resolves this issue when they release their version of 4.0.....

Anyone know a way to "increase" the volume through a software adjustment?

Yes the backlight is still two step. Yes I am having problems with my BT volume as well (HS801). The screen issue is not the backlight. It is the screen with the backlight off. It is not as brilliant. It used to be so good, that I almost never needed the backlight. Anyone else know what is going on. THIS REALLY SUCKS!
Speaking of backlight, if someone could get it to turn on when the alarm goes off, that would be great. (guess this is a topic for another conversation.)
I am still having trouble with the internet as well. I don't think it is a 4.0 problem, rather a Cingular API problem. Please post if anyone has any info. I havn't had time to sit on hold for 2 hours yet.

I've tried using the 4.0 Hong Kong software from the link on the download FAQ but it doesn't work. Keep getting "No additional applications designed for your handheld were found." Running Cingular 7290 3.8 stock. :?

Do a search for vendor.xml ... and delete it. restart desktop manager and it should work!

I definitely notice a difference in the screen with the backlight off with the Hong Kong 4.0 vs. the original 3.8 on the 7290.

Maybe I need my eyes checked, but I don\'t notice any difference in mine with the backlight off. Is it icon sharpness that\'s changed?
