Question about Facebook Notifications & Email

I just finished deleting about 25xx emails .. 97% of them were just Facebook notifications of wall post, comments, tags, bla bla bla. Anyways, Is there a way for me to get notifications on my 8900 WITHOUT getting an email for every notification i get .. or are those 2 things just tired together since my email is linked to Facebook.

I went into the settings on Facebook (from my computer) and i un checked the notification boxes, but then I started not getting notifications to my phone.

So did I just answer my own question or is there a way around this? :x

In the Facebook BlackBerry application go into options and uncheck the box for "keep messages on mail server" or something like that.
